I graduated from the Shrine in June of 1974. It was a great 8 years there. Some of the best years of my life was spent there. Went by way too fast. Still miss a lot of my classmates from then. Didn't start out too well in the first grade. I had Sister Theresa Ann. She must have had something against me for some reason. I still don't know what though. She punched me in the mouth and bloodied my mouth once. She actually had a closed fist that she hit me with. Another time, I had to go to the bathroom to relieve myself but she wouldn't let me go. So I couldn't hold it any longer and let it go right down my leg. After that first year it was much better. I had Miss Margaret in the second grade, Mrs. Altohff in the third grade, (Miss Durr that became) Mrs. Ayers in the fourth grade, Mrs. Burke in the fifth, Mrs. Clark in the sixth grade, Sister Margaret Maureen in the seventh grade and Sister Joseph Michael in the eight grade. I can't believe that it's been 45 years this year since I graduated from the Shrine. It's a shame that they closed the school down because of lack of attendance. Didn't have to worry about that back in the 60's and 70's. We always had like 30 to 45 kids in a class back then. And we had 3 classes in each grade. Really miss those days at the old school yard.
