Nice web page. Amateur radio is a great hobby. I received my novice (w9ifz) July 11, 1954 it was on my way to a First Class Commerical license which paid my way through college and a BSEE. After 65 years I still enjoy the hobby. Majority of my contacts are QRP. It is a toss up which is more important ones receiver or antenna. One should have the best receiver he can afford and a good resonant antenna. I have worked the world with home brew equipment, many transmitters only one tube or couple of transistors. But I also have commercial equipment.

Looking forward to the upcoming ARRL 150 contest honoring Hiram Percy Maxim who did a lot for ham radio. One can still read his words in the early QST which ARRL keeps on line.

73, hope to see you down the road perhaps on 40 meters around 7030 or their abouts.

Thanks for promoting Morse code. I received my novice ticket 10/15/57 and only operate QRP and CW. I have Parkinson’s so my fist is not as good as it once was but I still can use a bug, sk, sidewinder or paddle. I spent 30 years in the Air Force and 15 years teaching high school. I am now retired and spend my time doing what my wife tells me to. Haha.

Am enjoying your website - I am retired and wanting to get back on the air after a respite of about 10 years. I want to limit my operating to hand CW and am looking for nets or groups that remain committed to that mode - not interested in communicating with a machine or listening to someones computer generated garb - would be pleased to learn more about active hand CW groups or nets, on HF.

I've heard some hams say, “Life is too short for QRP.” The more likely case: It's their antenna that's too short. :-)

Hello John,
Well I read your diary every single evening and have for over a year. My day is not complete unless I read what you are up to. Your Web site has been an inspiration to me and many others over the years. I’m not far from Your town and sometimes visit relatives in East Brady. Maybe next time over in Pa. I’ll stop by and meet you -‘with plenty of advance notice and confirmation, of course. Take care of yourself and I wish you good health. Dennis wb8wtu
