Enjoying the website!

Thanks for the update to your antenna. BTW, could you advise what switches were used to replace the clips? I could not identify them from the photo.

Currently learning CW, and becoming familiar with my FT450D radio. Studying for General. Plan on attending Quartzfest in January. Became a ham with CW in mind to keep my retired mind active.

John:

Have been an NAQCC member for some time. Mostly I participate in the FRN nets here on the West Coast. About 6 months ago I took the plunge and got an Elecraft KX3 / PX3 combo. Boy, am I glad I did. Boatloads of fun, fun, fun.. Best rig I have ever owned. At any rate, I wanted to let you know that I thoroughly enjoyed reading your KX3 review this afternoon. Until reading that article, I had forgotten the rig would do dual watch. Since I do most of my ham work of late with various Nets (big surprise given the dismal sunspot situation of late) its not surprising that I forgot all about that feature. Your comments regarding the usefulness of the PX3 to scan the band for signals is spot on. I think the PX3 is probably the best tool I have to do this. My IC-7600 is a great QRO radio, but I prefer the PX3 for that function. The only improvement I would recommend is that Elecraft put a few more text lines at the bottom. It would make it a bit easier to keep track of things during busy times . I am thinking about getting the companion amp the KXPA100 just because I may want to work some DX with this little rig. I use the on-board paddle with mine and I have the KX3/PX3 sitting on the knock down North Georgia QRP Club's wooden stand. Great little item. It holds everything in just the right location, and is ultra-portable to boot.

Take care, John. Your website is awesome!

Got out then reenlisted 1973, Navy aircrewman submarine hunter. Flew from USS Enterprise in Lockheed S-3A Vikiing, 1976-77. Met a ham onboard who was running a Heath HW-101. At his insistance I ran a cw class for 6 shipmates that were going for novice. Left Enterprise with his HW-101 and Hustler vertical. Got novice in 1977 and operated 77 in San Diego and part of 78 in Maryland. Didn't upgrade and was QRT until Florida in 2013. Retired Navy, Jan 1990. Got Tech, June 24, 2013, General July 15, 2013 and on air July 16 with Icom-706 and Carolina Windom ant. Have logged (by hand) over 10,000 CW QSO's since. I log everything. Am member of SKCC but not FISTS - need to do that! Built my KX-3 in 2015 and like you, LOVE it! I also am heavily involved in vhf/uhf local nets and ARES/RACES work. Favorite antennas - Wires and Windoms and my MFJ Big Ears! Anyway, thanks again for an excellent website, John. 73, Robert AKA Popeye. All my ham buddies know me as Popeye.
