Great website - brought back many fond memories

After East End Primary School I spent four/five pleasant years at Pembroke Grammar School between 1958 & 1962 before leaving for Barry when my father was transferred by the MOD from Manobier to Cardiff.

My main interest was Agriculture & I was allowed, as a day boy, to drop certain subjects to attend the farm courses - unfortunately my ambitions were curtailed when the family moved to Glamorganshire.

I now live in Knowle, Solihull and have recently retired after 48 years in technical sales to the Construction Industry.

I still consider "Pembroke as home" and visit every year,as a hobby I collect pre 1945 Pembrokeshire postcards, if any reader can assist enhancing my collection I would love to hear from them ( mgphillips1@hotmail.co.uk )

Now live in Ivybridge, Devon. Worked as a secondary school teacher of RS for 37 years in various places but mainly London. Retired in 1966 & now lead very active life, involved with voluntary work & U3A activities. Anyone from my era living in my area? Would love to meet up with someone as I have met no one since leaving school in 1955 to go to Bangor University. No longer have any contact with PD as no family there.

Hi everyone,
Lovely to see all your faces again! Do you remember Mrs. Brace (My form II Teacher) and Mr. Ladd (I remember the latter chasing me around the English room-his gown flying, his cheeks flushed!)I was a bit naughty-once I hid behind the coats(I was very small-4'4") instead of going outside as I should-but mostly it was talking or singing out of tune on purpose or wearing neon green gym shorts-you know-harmless things really. Looking back it was a pleasure to be able to run cross-country in the vicinity of such a historic building that is Pembroke Castle-and to be so near to a farm too! I remember the long walk (in the dark then) and ferry ride to school and a further one mile walk trying to keep up with Mrs. Taplin? the p.e. Teacher and the golden Summer evenings when I would spend my bus money on an ice-cream from the van outside the school gates and make the long walk home again only this time along the stone wall and down through the Park-happy times! I hope you have fond memories of the school too.

Great site - brings back plenty of happy memories. I left Pembroke School in 1975 and eventually emigrated to South Africa in 1980 and I have been working in the gold mining industry ever since. I am currently working in Tanzania, but live in RSA. I am married and I have two children - a 24 year old son who has just graduated as a mechanical engineer and a 21 year old daughter who is in her fourth year studying medicine.

I attended Pembroke Dock Grammar School 1951 to 1958 so we moved to the new Bush School. It is timamed that I may have been the first of the Third Generation to attend the school. Edith Annie Dew (nee Harris) was my Grandmother so probably attended 1900 to 1906 or so. She later became a French and Mathematics Teacher at the school after college. Then came the second generation. Her three daughters, Nesta, Edith, and Lillian, and her son Edward Dew, all attended and graduated. Nesta Dew became a HM Inspector of Schools for Wales after a distinguished teaching career. Lillian Dew married local music teacher Danny Hordley. Edith Dew married an Australian pilot Charles Bettison, my parents. So my brother John Bettison (1953 to 1960) were the first of the the Third Generation I believe. I recognize many of my school colleagues, most of whom I have not seen for 55 years. I went to college of Architecture at age 17, for 5 years, and then on to a career in the USA, so sadly lost touch. But I would love to participate in any reunions and get togethers. This is an incredible website, and I appreciate the efforts of the team who created and main it. I can be reached via Facebook as Geoffrey James, or Geoffrey James A.I.A. Thank You.

Have had a great time putting names to previously unlabelled faces. I have just been on the phone for over an hour with another school pupil going through the 1971 photo together....so much fun! I managed to attend both the coronation, the grammar school and pembroke/bush ....having failed the 11 plus exam I went off very happily to the coro', then just a year later was transferred to the grammar with Brian Rees (front st.)but had to do the first year again, then in my 2nd year the 2 schools were amalgamated into the comp'. Must have cost my mum a fortune in uniforms......

Happy days; school musicals, school plays, Bush house boys, YFC.

Hello, my name was Cheryl Matthews....how nice it was to look through the old photographs of the Grammar School, I was in the Coronation School but when they emerged together into Bush Comp I made a lot of friends from Grammar, have had a few problems remember alot of pupils names and it is bugging me lolol. Have posted a few name into this site to they can print it up. Would be so nice to be able to find Long Photos or even A PHOTO or Class Photo of my school and class mates, I just cant find any anywhere and it is so sad as I loved that school.

Thanks for the interesting site, especially the class photos. I'd kept the originals but they were destroyed in a house fire and I'd not expected to see them again.
